Abidjan's Evicted

Over the past decade, Abidjan has undergone a profound urban transformation marked by forced evictions and the demolition of precarious neighborhoods. In 2024 alone, some thirty neighborhoods had been demolished, officially for reasons of security and urban planning. In June, the Abattoir neigborhood of Port-Bouët in the southern part of Abidjan was razed, leaving several thousand people homeless and without compensation.
